Spencer Fitzsimmons

How are teens portrayed in the media. well, I believe we are portrayed as ticking timebombs of raging horomones, who's bread and butter are sex, drugs, and hiphop. I feel that the media needs to get rid of this old man on his porch sindrome that every teen has a gun in their back pocket and is about to start spraying.

I like Spencer's comments. There are a lot of negative images floating around... I think they tend to show the young as hyper-engaged (the civically involved crowd, student body president, etc) or completely outside of society, angry, etc. One reason that I think that happens is that the boomers seem to judge by their own criteria - if you read the paper you're involved etc - rather than trying to look at the world through the eyes of this younger generation. I actually think that this generation of young people is perhaps even more aware, more concerned... it's been bombarded with images of the world like no other. And through youth media initiatives it is responding by creating media like no other!
