Teens are often stereotyped by appearance and dress as being involved in negative activity. Thus, the dress itself brings on a negative response. As times change, so do the fads and fashions. Although we may not be able to relate to the styles of the day, we should keep in mind, in many ways today's youth are not so different than past generations. They just want to have fun growing up!

Whiles clothing sends an unmistakable message, adults too often think that teens' dress suggest gang activity. Some of this has grounding in clothing that signals gang affiliation. But, more often than not, teen clothing just suggest what teens like on a given day. My son, now 18 and a recent high school graduate, careens from hip hop to prep to business-like to thug-wear, sometimes all in the same day. It just means that he is being a teen, on a mission of self-discovery.
I remember my mom's disdain with my hip-hugger/bell bottom jeans that scraped the floor even after they draped over 3" clogs and a red halter top that probably should have stayed at the store. I have grown away from that, as teens today will grow away from what ever the fad dress is now. But right now, as before, you won't be able to tear these clothes off!
What goes around comes around!!Many fashions that we see now will be hot once again 50 years from now and that generation will be in disagreement and disgust with their parents !
